lace Whether you're new to lace or ready for a real challenge, we have a class for you!
Aestlight Shawl Wed., June 30, 6-7 pm AND July 7, 14, 6-8 pm (first class 1 hour only) This versatile shawlette or scarf, with directions for two sizes, makes a perfect introductory lace project for the intermediate knitter. Start with a garter stitch triangle pick up and knit a border from the edges, finishing with a knitted on sideways edge. It's also a perfect example of traditional Shetland-style lace construction -- Aestlight means "east light" in Shetland dialect. This project is incredibly sumptuous in Malabrigo Sock Yarn -- or try any sock weight you love. Students must be comfortable with increases, decreases and working on circular needles. Damson
Wed., July 21 AND 28, 6-8 pm Damson's neck-down construction gives it a curving shape to drape beautifully around your shoulders. Long points at the edges make it a perfect scarf. It's a great project for intermediate knitters who want to begin exploring lace work. Students must be comfortable with increases and decreases and familiar with circular needles. Mitered Edging Mon., July 12 AND 19, 6-8 pm This is a
lace edging that I found in an old German magazine. It is added to a
center piece and could be worked in fine thread on a handkerchief center
or added to a knitted center for a lovely receiving blanket in
fingering or DK yarn. The border has a leaf pattern moving along the
edges and then down to pointed corners that are mitered to make the
meeting of the edges graceful and interesting. Lace experience
required. Instructor: Cindy Cost: $40
